World Solar Challenge
The World Solar Challenge is a recurring every 2 years race held in Australia . The extraordinary thing is that the race cars participating fully solar-powered car. Teams from around the world participate in this race. Everyone can participate in this race but of course there are conditions attached, it’s obviously not just as a car in crafting some cells and go. Such cars are very expensive and often the universities and companies participating in the race, but individuals can participate.
Sponsor of the World Solar Challenge is Panasonic , the teams are sponsored by companies from their own country.
In 2007 the 20 years since the first race was held the first race was in 1987 in which 23 participants have participated. In the third week of October offers the race always takes place every two years.

Volvo Ocean Race
The start of the race was first heard on September 8, 1973. In the port of Portsmouth on the south-west coast of England where 17 boats were ready to go. However, since then a lot has changed in the race.
The name Volvo Ocean Race existes only for a few years. Previously the race was called the Whitbread Round the World Race. During the first version of the Whitbread Round the World Race 1973-1974 17 boats were participate. Nearly all boats were different: there were no fixed rules for the size and shapes of the boats. That way one team had more chance of victory than the other. Now all teams have the same boat so everyone has equal opportunities.
The race
The participants averaged about 45000 km away across open sea. The boats operate 24 hours a day. As the crew of the boat rest occasionally it is still on board the of the ships working in shifts: a few hours of work a few hours rest.
Race 2005-2006
The last race in 2005-2006, consisted of nine courses. The shortest period had a length of 400 miles, the longest being 6700 miles. There were 63 sailors participated, divided in seven boats. For the first time in the history of the race starting position was in Spain. From the northernmost province of Spain, the boats started the race this time 57.000 km long. The boats were going from Spain to Cape Town in South Africa. From there they went through the Indian Ocean to Melbourne in Australia and sailed themself to New Zealand. Now they began on the largest stage of the race: from New Zealand across the Pacific to Rio de Janeiro in Brazil. Then there were some stops in the U.S. before the boats went back to Europe, to Portsmouth in England, to be exact. With a stopover in Rotterdam, the sailors raced to the finish in the Swedish city of Gothenburg.
